Frequently Asked Questions
What is No Leak Concrete Sealer?
No Leak Concrete Sealer is a professional-grade sealer specifically designed to protect concrete and Hydrostone vessels from wax leaks. It was developed by a paint chemist to provide an effective protection for candle makers and artisans.
How is this product intended to be used?
The sealer is designed for use inside decorative concrete and Hydrostone candle vessels to reduce porosity and help prevent wax leakage. It is water based, is not classified as a flammable liquid, low odour and dries clear. It is not intended for direct contact with flame, burning wick or sustained heat, and does not replace proper wick testing or standard candle safety practices. It is formulated with careful consideration.
How do I apply the sealer?
You can use either the pour method or dip method. Pour the sealer into your vessel, let it stand for 1 minute, pour out and let drain for 5 minutes. Wait at least 30 minutes between coats. Allow 72 hours (3-4 days) to cure before filling with wax.
How many coats do I need?
Typically, one coat is enough for effective sealing. A second coat can be applied if desired, with at least 30 minutes between applications.
Can I reuse the sealer?
Yes! Pour used sealer into a clean, separate container for future use. Never return used sealer to the original container.
What temperature should I apply it at?
Best results are achieved in temperatures between 15°C and 27°C (60°F–80°F). Allow your piece to cure in temperatures above 15°C (60°F) with humidity between 35–50%.
Will it change the look of my concrete?
No! The sealer absorbs evenly and brings out the natural beauty of the material without altering the look or feel.
Can I use No Leak Concrete Sealer inside concrete candle vessels?
Yes. No Leak Concrete Sealer is designed for interior vessel sealing on concrete, cement, Hydrostone, gypsum, and similar porous handmade containers before wax is poured. Always allow the sealed vessel to cure fully before filling with wax.
Does concrete need to be sealed before pouring candle wax?
Concrete, cement, Hydrostone, and gypsum are porous materials. Sealing the inside of the vessel helps protect against wax seepage, fragrance oil staining, surface discoloration, and unfinished porous interiors.
Does No Leak Concrete Sealer stop wax from leaking through concrete?
No Leak Concrete Sealer is designed to help protect porous candle vessels from wax seepage and fragrance oil staining. Results can vary depending on the vessel material, porosity, application method, wax type, fragrance load, and candle design, so testing is recommended before full production.
Can I use this sealer on Hydrostone candle vessels?
Yes. No Leak Concrete Sealer can be used on Hydrostone containers, concrete candle vessels, cement jars, gypsum vessels, and other porous decorative containers.
How long should I wait before pouring wax into a sealed vessel?
Allow the sealed vessel to air cure for a minimum of 72 hours, or 3 to 4 days, in temperatures above 15°C / 60°F with humidity between 35% and 50% before filling with wax. Higher humidity may require longer drying time.
Can I seal the outside of a concrete candle vessel too?
Yes. For exterior sealing, use a cloth slightly damp with water, dip it into the sealer, then wipe a very thin coat on the outside of the vessel and let it dry.
Is No Leak Concrete Sealer fireproof or heatproof?
No. No Leak Concrete Sealer is not intended for direct contact with flame, a burning wick, or sustained heat. Always follow standard candle safety practices. Proper wick sizing, wax selection, and candle safety testing remain the responsibility of the candle maker.
Should I test the sealer before using it for production?
Yes. Testing on a spare vessel is recommended before full application so you can confirm the application method, dry time, finish, and candle performance for your specific vessel material and candle design.
